The Palace of Fine Arts is a beautiful sight to behold in San Francisco. It was originally built for the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exhibition to celebrate the completion of the Panama Canal, which, having sailed through it on New Year’s Day, is why I was interested in visiting. The original structure was demolished and rebuilt in the 60s. The size of it made me feel as if I was coming upon undiscovered ancient but grand ruins. See the large version.
