Mt. Rushmore is not the only granite mountain carving in the Black Hills. The Crazy Horse Memorial was started by Korczak Ziółkowski in 1948 and is supposed to be completed in 100 years’ time. These tourists are standing next to a replica of what the finished mountain, carved in the round, will look like. In the background is the actual mountain.

It’s hard to grasp the enormity of the carving, but an informational video showed that Mt. Rushmore’s heads would fit in the same space as Crazy Horse’s head and flowing hair.
