Our long drive to Queenstown took us along part of New Zealand’s coast. We stopped at a stretch of beach crowded with carefully constructed rock cairns. Our bus was believed to have something wrong with it, so we had extra time to explore while Craig our driver/guide took a look at the bus.

Were the “carefully constructed” rock cairns put in place to thwart the tide or some such reason?
The water is actually somewhat far from the cairns and road (although maybe the tide was out). Passersby happen to come along and make their own.
This looks like a scene from “The Road.” A very gray world.
Never seen that movie, but it would have been nice to see Viggo on this road!
