When I was young, I hated having my picture taken. My dad owned a Canon AE-1 Program that he purchased before his trip to the Middle East in the 1970s, so I grew up with an SLR camera (vs. point-and-shoot). It was in high school that I started taking lots of pictures of my own.
During my first year of college, I took a photography course over interim. It was then that I finally learned about aperture and shutter speed, composition, light, depth of field, etc. I was even taught how to develop film and make my own prints in the darkroom. I loved it.
Throughout college, the camera and I captured almost everything on film, from band tours to birthday parties. During my senior year, I joined the school’s newspaper as a staff photographer and enjoyed applying my hobby to something relevant.
After college, I longed for a digital SLR. When my 101-year-old grandmother passed away in December 2005, she left me an inheritance with which I was able to purchase my first digital camera and have been taking more photographs than ever before.
I soon became intrigued by the concept of a photo blog. To post a different photo everyday would give me the opportunity to critique and improve upon my work and then share it with others. I posted my first entry on August 22, 2006 and have been repeating that process daily ever since.
Enjoy!
