About/Usage
| When I was growing up, I hated having my picture taken. My dad owned a Canon AE-1 Program that he purchased before his trip to the Middle East in the 1970s, so I grew up with an SLR camera (vs. point-and-shoot) as the norm. It was in high school that I started taking lots of pictures of my own. By then, I enjoyed having my picture taken.During my first year of college, I took a Foundations of Photography course over interim, so I had to temporarily borrow my dad’s camera. It was then that I finally learned about aperture and shutter speed, composition, light, depth of field, etc. I was even taught how to develop film and make my own prints in the darkroom. The class took up a lot of my free time, but I loved it. After that, my dad let me permanently “borrow” his SLR.Throughout college, the camera and I captured almost everything on film, from band tours to birthday parties. During my senior year, a friend working for the school’s newspaper mentioned that I should become a staff photographer. I gladly took the opportunity to actually apply my hobby to something relevant (one that paid me to do something I enjoy!), although my only regret is that I wish I had come across the job earlier.I love taking photos for my own pleasure, but I also enjoy sharing the images with others. Film prints, however, have made this difficult in an age of digital media. Because of this, the Canon sat on the shelf for over a year after college. I longed for a digital SLR, but I lacked the funds. When my 101-year-old grandmother passed away in December 2005, though, she left me an inheritance with which I was able to purchase my first digital camera in April 2006. Since then, I’ve been taking more photographs than ever before. When I first discovered what a photo blog was, I was intrigued by the concept, so I toyed with the idea of setting up my own. To post a different photo everyday would give me the opportunity to critique and improve upon my work and then share it with others. The events outlined in the previous paragraphs have led to my doing just that; I posted my first entry on August 22, 2006 and have been repeating that process daily (with the exception of a missed entry here and there) ever since. With that said, I’ll stop typing so you can take a look around. If you like what you see, please share the link with a friend, or add my RSS feed to your feed reader.
