Sweden isn’t known for its alcohol consumption for no reason. Here’s a local university club known for its drinking (and called the Donald Duck Committee in English). I witnessed with fascination one of its drinking competitions. These two each downed one bottle, one full pint, and one full stein.

"The Dead Sea Scrolls" exhibit recently opened at the Science Museum of Minnesota. Pictured here is the installation of one of the scroll jar artifacts by a representative from the Israel Antiquities Authority. This is the first item you’ll see upon entrance to the exhibit. Highly recommended by yours truly.

Happy Australia Day! January 26 marks the date in 1788 when the First Fleet arrived in Sydney Cove. To celebrate, here’s a photo taken from Blues Point Reserve during the first few minutes of 2010. Sydney is known for its fantastic fireworks to ring in the New Year, and 12 minutes of this (preceded by an eight-hour camp-out) was nothing short of spectacular.

The University of Minnesota marching band performed Michael Jackson’s "Thriller" on Halloween. The zombies in them came out and impressed me with choreography borrowed from the music video.

The father and daughter who sat in front of me at the U of M football game on Halloween brought along cutouts-on-a-stick of Gophers coach Tim Brewster.

Last night, the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers took on the Michigan State Spartans and came out victorious.

Marching On

The new TCF Bank Stadium, built for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers, was tested out during a scrimmage game yesterday afternoon. The facility is quite beautiful.

Plus Tax

While exploring the Black Hills, I saw and heard many motorcycles. The annual Sturgis Bike Rally was taking place the next week, so I drove through the town of Sturgis, S.D. on my way back to Minnesota.
