mckinley.jpgAlaska, we have arrived! A 10-day land and cruise tour awaits us. My parents and I just finished a casual outdoor meal at a restaurant next to our hotel which is on the Chena River in Fairbanks. It’s 10PM at home in Minneapolis and Kansas but only 7PM here; I am ready for bed!

Our flight took off from Minneapolis at noon today and five hours later we landed in Anchorage. I enjoyed peering out the window of the plane and watching the Canadian Rockies stretch endlessly. On the short flight to Fairbanks, I was in awe of Mt. McKinley rising 20,000 feet and piercing through the cloud cover. I spotted a couple of glaciers oozing their frozen contents through valleys. As we descended into the Fairbanks area, I was glad to finally see untouched land, saved from the scars of access roads and crop circles.

Tomorrow we make our way south to Denali National Park. I’m looking forward to a good night’s rest and a refreshing shower in the morning.
