100-degree Difference
On this sunny afternoon in Minneapolis, weather.com is giving a temperature reading of -10 degrees Fahrenheit. Down in Panama City, Panama, the weather is reading at 89 degrees. On Tuesday, my parents and I will be making our way to that 100-degree warmer climate via cruise ship.
Mom loved our Alaskan cruise so much that before Dad and I knew it, we’d booked another one. This time around, we’ll be sailing south from Los Angeles on the 23rd, squeezing our way through the Panama Canal, and disembarking in Ft. Lauderdale on January 6th. Half of a month in tropical weather is going to be a glorious hiatus from this winter wonderland.
My bed is currently covered with all summer clothing options–shorts, flip flops, swim suit, strapless dresses. I think the final packed suitcase will be much lighter than what I took to Alaska which contained jackets and bulkier sweaters. Smartwool socks and long underwear will be left behind, and my skin will don sun block.
I’m really looking forward to the photo opportunities that this trip will provide. I’ve run out of quality shots to post on my daily photoblog, and I’m sure I’ll return with at least 2,000 new options.
My parents are to arrive at my apartment in about 15 minutes. They left Kansas yesterday, as we’ll be flying out together from Minneapolis. Hopefully the weather will cooperate for our 6am flight on Tuesday to L.A. via Chicago.
