Australia on Screen
Thanks to suggestions from a friend in band, I watched a handful of Australian movies last month, and I highly recommend them to you:
- “Gallipoli” - stars a young Aussie Mel Gibson and depicts the tragedy during WWI when Australian troops went to fight for their mother country.
- “Breaker Morant” – based on a true story about Harry “Breaker” Morant and two other Australian Army officers during the Second Boer War and the events surrounding their unfair trial on the grounds of killing the enemy.
- “Newsfront” - another historical film, this one about the news crews of Australia during the early 1950s and how they would do anything to get unique footage.
- “My Brilliant Career” – about a headstrong and independent girl growing up in rural Australia in the 1890s; very Anne of Green Gables-esque.
- “The Man from Snowy River” – I watched this as a kid and it was fun to revisit it. Beautiful views of Australian mountains.
